PRODUCT REVIEW: COLOURPOP'S LAX
Easily persuaded by my friends, I opted to try the ColourPop brand too. An intern at work sells ColourPop Lipsticks and because I will save on shipping fee, I bought one from her. Unfortunately, only online sellers have this brand, it is not yet readily available in Philippines.
I see a lot of Instagram Sellers posts that ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip is their best seller. There is a lot of shades available. In fact when I checked it from ColourPop's website, there are forty-three (43) shades that we can choose from.
I ended up with this shade because my first and second choice are already sold out. Also, I remembered that I do not own a liquid lipstick that has a vampire looking shade of lipstick yet.
Shall we proceed to my review? :)
Type: Ultra Matte Lip
Product Description: There's no product description both on the box and lipstick. According from ColourPop's website, it belongs under dark red shades. While according to Temptalia, its a "Vampy Blackened Red". This lipstick is made with love in the USA.
How To Use: (From ColourPop's Website)
Step 1: Make sure your lips are bare and dry!
Step 2: Apply matching lip pencil for a precise and perfected application.
Step 3: Apply Ultra Matte Lip with the applicator or your favorite lip brush.
**For smoothest finish always exfoliate your lips first! This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips smoothly and leaves SUPER intense pigment-rich colour with a bold, ultra matte look. It's very long wearing and completely kiss proof! We suggest storing these babies upright and shaking before application!
At first I was afraid that I will not be able to pull off a lipstick with a dark shade as this but it blended well into my lips. Its nice to know that I can rock this color. There are days that I just wanted to use a lipstick that makes me look dark and twisty and this shade Lax makes a perfect match. This shade is definitely a good choice in achieving a vampy look.
The Lax Ultra Matte Lip is highly pigmented. A layer of application can fully cover the true color of my lips but I still use two layers to reach the opaqueness that I wanted. The cream does not settle in lip lines and it looks even better when fully absorbed by the lips. Upon application, it looks glossy but turns into matte when dry. (Check my swatch below wherein half is already dry and the other half is still wet.)
This lipstick is unscented but its better than smelling all the chemicals on it like other lipsticks, right?
After the lipstick was fully absorbed into my lips, it has this powdery feel on my lips but its not uncomfortable. Since it is matte, I can feel that it is really dry but it does not fall out from my lips. Another good thing is that for a matte lipstick, it did not make my lips super dry (can easily be fixed with an ordinary lip balm) and it is not hard to remove like other matte lipsticks.
The lasting time is great! It lasted for more than 8 hours and the color on the center of my lips faded after eating heavy meals. It cannot be removed from drinking and eating bits of food. I suggest thought that when you re-touched the faded part, to remove the whole lipstick first because it does not blend with your previous application of lipstick when you pat it over the faded parts. When the formula is already dry and fully absorbed, I noticed that it transfers too little lipstick on utensils used.
I noticed that this lipstick feathers out of the lips. I suggest that you use a lip liner before applying this matte lipstick. It settles on some dry patches of the lip so I also suggest to do lip exfoliation before using this.
Not yet readily available in the Philippines.
I do not particularly like the brush applicator. (I like Happy Skin's brush applicator better.) It is stiff, large and the tip is rounded that it makes it challenging to reach the sharp edges of my lips. Scratch that, I had a hard time applying this lipstick.
