PRODUCT REVIEW: Sleep Well Bug Repellant Cream (Hush Cream)

"Zenutrients Bug Me Not. Don't let the fear of bugs curtail your enjoyment of nature. With natural insect repellants from Zenutrients, you can be outside as much as you want."

I do not use bug repellant creams but my niece does as she is still a kid. For me its more important to protect the children than our age as they are more susceptible to mosquito bites resulting in illnesses like Dengue Fever and Chikungunya. Most of the bug repellants are too strong that it is not advised to left it over night in a child's skin. I heard from one of the great pedatricians at work that there is a study that if you do not remove repellants on one's skin and it was fully absorbed, where do you think it can go to? Of course into the bloodstream so you are also giving the body another job to excrete this foreign body too. It is not yet proven to be harmful but when I think about it, the study do have a point.

So I am surprised when I got this Zenutrients Bug Repellant Cream since I know that Zenutrients are made from natural ingredients. This can be a good replacement to other strong bug repellants. If you are going to let the cream be absorbed into your skin, why not use an organic one. Using organic stuff is still safer than strong chemicals from branded items.

Zenutrients has different varieties of sprays and creams but this is the kind that I got from Sample Room. I got a full size item and I am excited to share my review about it.

From the brochure of Zenutrients Bug Me Not:

Knowing the proper application of repellant makes a difference. Everyone is concerned about sicknesses caused by bugs especially when the rainy season comes; a specific example is dengue caused by mosquitoes. You need to find the repellant that works for you and your family, and even your pet. Going for a natural or organic repellant is ideal because it is likely something that anyone in the household can use.

How To Make Your Repellant More Effective:
A. Spray on the body - If you or your loved one seems to particularly attract mosquitoes - yes, they like some people more than others because of the "scent" we release, be sure to reapply every hours to keep its effectivity going.
B. Use the Repellant in your home too - Spray doors and windows, especially at dusk when dengue mosquitoes tend to be out. This will ward off entry and keep your home smelling nice.
C. If you have the space, grow the plants - Having a few lavender and citronella plants make the house no only prettier, it doubles as a home repellant too!
D. Use it on your pets - Pets need protection too. Spray them with a eucalyptus or lemongrass repellant while you're grooming them. They will smell fresh and stay protected too.

Mosquito Attractans - 85% of our susceptibility to mosquitoes may be affected by genetics. If you have a feeling that mosquitoes "like you more", that might be true. Know the other attractants and keep them at bay.

Carbon Dioxide - We emit this when we breathe, s it can't be helped! Mosquitoes can smell their prey from up to 50 meters away. You give off more carbon dioxide when you are hot or have been exercising. A burning candle or fire is another source of carbon dioxide.

Lactic Acid - You release more lactic acid when you have been exercising or after eating certain foods (e.g. salty foods, high potassium foods)

Floral or Fruity Fragrances - In addition to perfumes, hair products and scented sunscreens, watch for the subtle floral fragrance from fabric softeners and dryer sheets.

Skin Temperature - Many mosquitoes are attracted to the slightly cooler temperatures of the extremities.

Moisture - Mosquitoes are attracted by perspiration because of the chemicals it contains and also because it increases the humidity.

Nature's Repellants - All these natural essential oils work well as repellants for you, your kids, and even your pets. Oils mentioned below work as repellants by masking scents attractive to insects, such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid in humans and pets. Here are some of the most well loved natural repellants:
1. Citronella - Made from a particular grass variety, with it's clean, outdoorsy scent, it has been a well known repellant for home and personal use. The combination of citronellol, citronellal and geraniol found in citronella effectively repel most mosquitoes, ticks and even flies.
2. Lavender - Commonly used in aromatherapy to calm and soothe, this natural repellant also protects against mosquitoes, ticks and even moths. It can be applied to linens and clothes to enhance its overall repellant properties.
3. Eucalyptus - With its fresh almost minty scent, herbalists have used this oil in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda to treat bronchitis, colds and flu. The oil produced from the eucalyptus plant (particularly the leaves) repels mosquitoes and ticks very well.
4. Lemongrass - Used in traditional Chinse medicine to treat stomach pain, rheumatism, headaches and colds, this fresh, almost sweet smelling oil also wards away mosquitoes and other bugs. Its added benefits include antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Ingredients: Purified water, Coconut Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Citronella Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil

How to use: May be used day or night to repel a variety of bugs. Although citronella and lavender are non-toxic, do not drink or spray into eyes. If using on face, put onto fingertips and apply. For general application.

Pros:
> The scent of Citronella overpowers the Lavender but the scent still soothes me when I smell it
> The cream is not sticky and oily
> Worked like a body lotion as the skin where the cream was applied felt smooth and moisturized

Cons:
> Warm after application but disappears after it was absorbed
